Life is great - we are both retired and having fun in our Venetian Isles adult community. Helene Kuskin Currently living in Coral Springs, FL. Though I was not close with almost any of these kids, you can see how vivid are my memories of this time. My neighbors were Grace and Herb Pomfrey and my other neighbors were two brothers Stu and David and their sister Wendy. Would love to know what happened to Jerry Sobel and others. Ronnie and I were bathroom monitors, and someone stole our pocketbooks with our collection of bus passes. The boy-next-door was Neal Dreznin, and I sat on the bar of his bike and we rode all over town. Schneider, the 3rd grade teacher, lived on our block.

I will never forget Laurelton and all the great experiences that came with growing up there. I was involved in the movement in the 60's & early 70's. After high school, I went to Antioch College, then got a Ph. in political science from the University of Chicago. from 1952 (age 1) til about 1962 then, 137-14 228th St. To this day I talk about growing up in such a wonderful place. There's so many times I say I wish I could go back and spend one day of my childhood and see everything once more and all my friends I had, because Laurelton was the greatest town to grow up in. I moved from Laurelton before the end of high school but have maintained friendships from there to this day. All the kids would play games in the street till the lights came on: I Declare War, Scully, Ringo Levio, Ghost.

Miss all my friends and "hanging out" at Bert and Dave's on FLB. Laurelton was one of the best places to be at, the right place, at the right time. I returned to teach at Antioch, 1975-95, then was hired by Macalester College in Saint Paul to Chair the Polsci. My time in Laurelton were the happiest years of my childhood; no community I resided in since matched the warmth and nurturing I so fondly recall. Our block, 124th Street & 137th Ave., was loaded with kids and definately the best place for a "punch ball" game....stoop ball was at my house! Clair's in Rosedale in 1964 then went to SGHS and graduated in 1968. I remember when I walked to Green Acres, I remember La Tasca Pizzeria and The Pizza King. Then we'd sit on the front porches and play "Cars." Whoever picked white or black was sure to win.

and have so many memories of growing up in Camelot.

We lived back to back with the Vims, and across from Rabbi Romineck, the Finks and the Benjamins.

) lol, but have completed 4 NYC Marathons and look forward to another November, 2008. I'm still "bestest" friends with Ilene Aronson/Yarkon. Some of us went to PS 132-- and we were part of the first graduating class of JHS 59! Marvin Merein, I was in your class - Laurelton Elementary School! I lived there until I married a Valley Stream girl in 1971. After graduation in 1968 I served in the Navy and went on to college. I work for the Justice Department in Washington, DC and hope to retire in the next few years. Would love to hear from former SING-sters, or others who remember. There are a lot of great memories associated with growing up in Laurelton. Some of the friends I remember were Stuart Fishman, Edith Edelstein, Anita Bernheimer, Elayne Gross, Susan Dankner, Donald French, Trudi Sturm (who I just reconnected with and who is refreshing my memory about lots of fun times)and lots of kids from Springfield Gardens, Rosedale and Cambria Heights as well. Those of you who remember me and would like to touch base please do. I was just searching for a name, and stumbled on this site. Everyone thought they were cool at that stage of their lives. I seem to remember it all as Nirvana........could that possibly be true? We are fortunate to live near our two grandsons and get to spend a lot of time with them. I remember all the teachers being mentioned by others (Herb Magidson, director of The Man Who Came to Dinner, which I stage managed really inspired me to do the theater thing as I'm currently a local stage director and actor and have worked on almost 100 shows in the last 20 years). I did attend Bob's Laurelton reunion on Long Island in 2001 (or maybe 2000) My email is [email protected] as others have said I'd love to hear from old friends who remember me. I remember playing stickball in the streets, stealing pretzels from Schultz's candy store, buying a stickball bat for 29 cents and many other very fond memories of growing up in a great/fun neighborhood. Still screwed up but breathing fresh air with clean water in the White Mountains. There's even talk of a meet-up here in Italy next year. Nice to revisit some of the old places and names from the past. The memorties are good and after 30 years traveling around the world, PS 156 was a great place to get started. I used to live at 135-59 232 St., next door to Carl Perkal, who I see is listed on the website. We lived in Commack, Long Island before retiring to Florida. Goldstein, Felicia (Hirata) - [email protected] Andrew Jackson H. My twin sister Tamara and I always talk about how we hope that our grandchildren (and theirs) can have that "Laurelton" experience. Jill Edelstein, my ex and, more importantly, friend, told me about this site.

Yeah, she did pretty good at taking on the whore image. I actually just listened to it for the first time :)Gunpowder, Guillotine (head chopping off device used against Marie Antoinette & the other nobility); note: history has slandered Marie -- she wasn't saying "no bread, then eat cake"(out of touch with what a lack of flour completely means); at that time, they ate two kinds of pastries -- plain, bread-like, & sweet, pastry(cake)-like -- it would've been reasonable for the servant staff to say, "we're out of bread to accompany lunch" & Marie replied with the meaning of, "Oh, serve them(our guests) the good breakfast stuff", as in don't quibble over details, we'll not go broke through giving a little more than is expected, especially when the alternative is to risk the entire community infrastructure by displaying poverty from the leaders (if Marie is so poor now as to not have bread, how much worse will this famine become for US?? certainly is possible, likely even, that other nobles were feeding at the tough, making life worse for the little guy, but they'd not involve Marie in this as a co-thief nor even in knowledge of it. For some unknown reason, these song lyrics have been stuck in my head for weeks.… continue reading »
